Naomi Velissariou
Theo d’Or
In 2021 Naomi Velissariou received the Theo d’Or, the most important Dutch-language prize for a leading female role, for Permanent Destruction: Pain Against Fear. Every winner of the Theo d’Or and Louis d’Or is portrayed for a gallery that hangs permanently in the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, alongside many of the greatest names of Dutch and Flemish theatre. Naomi asked me to make hers: a portrait that closes a circle, after years of creating the images for her work.

Kopergietery
Club Toulouse
A highly visual, movement-driven performance for young audiences, inspired by the life and work of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Club Toulouse looks at fashion, nightlife and the hunger to be seen: a club where the backstage tells more stories than the front stage, danced on pointe shoes and high heels in smoke and light.

Permanent Destruction
An energy concert about self-hatred, desire and destruction, created and performed by Naomi Velissariou with musician Joost Maaskant. It premiered at SPRING Utrecht in May 2018 and became the first part of a trilogy that would earn her the Theo d’Or. The campaign image sets the tone: raw, seductive and on the edge of collapse.

Sontag
Not a biography but a larger-than-life dream world built on the thinking of Susan Sontag. Sontag was Naomi Velissariou’s final production at Frascati, with text by Rik van den Bos and a cast of Tim Schmidt, Ward Kerremans, Ingrid Wender and Naomi herself.

Q&A
A contemporary myth about societal anxiety, written by Rik van den Bos and directed by Naomi Velissariou. It premiered in April 2016 and toured the Netherlands and Belgium. Besides the image for the campaign, I also designed the set.
